Our Academy students had the special opportunity to hear and learn from Peter Ogunyemi, a Paralympian who lost the use of his legs as a result of contracting polio as a child in Nigeria. Through the WheelTalk program, Peter combines unique stories with the opportunity to play up to an hour of Wheelchair Basketball or Wheelchair Rugby.

WheelTalk is created by the non-profit organisation Disability Sport & Recreation, funded by the Victorian State Government’s Department of Education.

Peter shared his life story, sporting achievements and challenges and gave our students the opportunity to learn how to use the wheelchairs and play sports. The session was inspiring and educational, encouraging our students to reflect on inclusion, resilience and the importance of embracing diversity and empathy.
