Yvonne graduated in 2018 and since then has completed a double degree at Monash University, graduating in May 2024 with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accounting, and a Bachelor of Biomedical Science. During her time at Monash, she gained valuable experience through a 2-year part-time internship at Ernst & Young and a 6-week internship at Deloitte; both companies are part of what’s known as The Big Four accounting firms of the world.
Currently, Yvonne is working as an Analyst in Forensic Accounting at KordaMentha, focusing on commercial disputes and personal injury matters. Yvonne credits her success to the skills she learnt from the Academy and university, namely empathy and ambition. Being a part of leadership activities at the Academy allowed Yvonne to hone her skills whilst developing a deep sense of compassion. And then at Monash she expanded her leadership skills by engaging with diverse university clubs, which gave her the opportunity to give back to the community and connect with both professional and personal networks.
Yvonne’s short-term career goal is to complete her studies as a Chartered Accountant to build herself a solid foundation in accounting and forensics. However, in the long term she has several career ambitions that she is excited to explore. One of these goals is to return to university and pursue a degree in veterinary medicine. This pathway aligns with her passion for animal care whilst allowing her to utilise the skills she has developed from studying biomedical science. Alternatively, Yvonne is also drawn to the idea of continuing her career as a forensic accountant, with a focus on litigation or risk management. Ideally this would involve working overseas, giving her the opportunity to broaden her global experiences as well as her professional network. Overall, Yvonne is driven by her desire for continuous growth, meaningful work, and ability to make a significant impact in her chosen field.
To current Academy students, Yvonne stresses the importance of not limiting yourself to only one specific career path. She provides the advice “When you know exactly what you want to do in life, there’s only one door of opportunity available to you, but when you’re still figuring things out, many doors remain open.” She encourages students to explore all opportunities and genuinely reflect on whether they enjoy what they are doing, while understanding that nothing in life is set in stone. Yvonne imparts reassurance to students saying that “things will always evolve and new opportunities are abundant.”
