Science - Department Overview
Science is a part of everyday life. It tries to make sense of the world around us. Science is a human process by where it has a fascinating history where it has changed the quality, length and direction in life. Our society is continually challenged and redirected by ideas borne from people's curiosity, imagination and dreams about what might be possible. It explores, develops and improves the quality of life in our society.
Science at Academy of Mary Immaculate aims to provide a dynamic, engaging, simulating, creative and nourishing curriculum for its students. It extends their understanding beyond what affects them and the community to include what they cannot see, feel, hear or touch but can only image. It focuses on techniques of scientific investigation to create an understanding of the world. It understands the ways the concepts, theories and models of science are used throughout society in which students live. It provides an awareness for students of the safe practices, the development of skills in the safe use of scientific apparatus and encourages them to act responsibly when conducting investigations.
The science units focus on traditional and emerging sciences: biology, chemistry, earth science, physics, space science, biotechnology, green chemistry, nanotechnology and synchrotron science.
