IRC - Department Overview

Student Learning

Due to changes in the way information is delivered and the amount of information that is now available, it is important that students develop the skills necessary to enable them to analyse and interpret this information.

Information literacy skills therefore are an integral part of the school curriculum.

At the Year 7 level the teacher librarian works cooperatively with teachers of Humanities teachers to devise a program which provides students with the opportunity to develop information literacy skills within the context of their learning. These classes occur on a weekly basis.

At the commencement of their VCE studies students in Year 11 work through a program of activities designed to assist them in locating, collecting, analysing and organising information in order to prepare them for their future participation in tertiary studies or the world of work.

Assistance is also given to students when they are conducting individual research in the IRC.
