Reading for Pleasure
In order to promote the pursuit of reading as a worthwhile leisure activity a number of activities are organised as a means of achieving this goal:
- RAGE Book Club - members meet once per week to discuss books, write reviews, listen to visiting speakers and attend special events. Highlights of the program have included: attendance at the Melbourne Writers' Festival, invitations to the Fitzroy Library, participation in the Writers on the Road program conducted by the State Library of Victoria and the hosting of the 2000 Young Australia Best Book Award Ceremony in 2000.
- Celebration of Book Week by a range of activities including visits from well-known Australian authors. Past visitors have included Morris Gleitzman, John Marsden, Archie Fusillo, Margaret Clark and Geoffrey McSkimming.
- Promotion of new books during Wide Reading classes.
- Core Week – As part of Yr 9 Core Week, students have the opportunity to listen to a well-known Australian author discuss his/her books and the craft of writing as well as visit the State Library for a Discovery Tour.
- The hosting of the 2000 Young Australia Best Book Award Ceremony.
