IRC - Department Overview
Aims
The IRC (Information Resource Centre) programs and services are integral to the school's Mission Statement.
The IRC aims to:
- Create a learning environment where information sources, including electronic sources, are linked to learning in such a way that students are able to develop information skills within the context of their learning.
- To build an organized collection of teaching and learning resources that meets the educational, recreational and cultural needs of the school community.
- To develop an enjoyment of reading, learning and IRC use which will continue beyond school life.
- To establish a partnership between teachers, the teacher-librarian and information technology staff in order to integrate electronic information sources into the curriculum.
- To provide information access across the school to local, regional, national and global resources in order to expose the school community to a diverse range of ideas, knowledge and experience.
- To participate in resource sharing with other schools in the region in order to extend the range and quality of resources.
- To promote children's literature through wide reading classes, the RAGE Bookclub, competitions, Book Week, author visits, etc.
- To promote the services and resources of the IRC to the whole school community through school newsletters, etc.
