Health and P.E. - Department Overview

KLA Overview

The overall goal of the department is "to provide high quality learning experiences which enable students to develop their own full potential through a curriculum which caters for the students physical, emotional, nutritional and cognitive development."

The Health Sciences Department provides a comprehensive curriculum in line with the Structure of the Curriculum and Standards Frameworks and the Physical Social and Personal Learning Strand of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards. The key domains are Health and Physical Education and Interpersonal Development.

The courses offered demonstrate a degree of specialization in particular areas. They examine the benefits of physical activity and the influences which affect people"s attitude towards, and participation in, physical activity short and long term; they emphasize a holistic approach to health and well-being firmly acknowledging the relationship between mental and physical health; they develop the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about health enhancing behavior and attitudes to food.

The focus and direction of the subjects are diverse and foster a sense of involvement through:

  • actively involving students in their learning of physical development

  • linking key knowledge and practical skills to student well-being

  • linking theory to specific application of design and creation;

  • building upon student experiences, challenges and interests;

  • communication and cooperation in learning

  • intra and extra curricular events.

Each area contributes to the development of the "well rounded individual". The courses aim to challenge and extend the students to their maximum potential.

Our Year 7 - 12 Curriculum is based on building student confidence and creativity through a variety of skills which students are encouraged to value and pursue in their lives and futures.
