The junior secondary school at the Academy of Mary Immaculate strives to create a nurturing and vibrant learning community. This sense of community doesn't just happen without a dedicated team of teachers.
Our school operates on an open entry basis and we believe every student has the opportunity to study at the Academy regardless of their academic abilities. Our transition program is designed to build connectedness given that our school attracts students from every part of Melbourne. At last count we have 54 feeder schools, due in no small measure, we believe, to our unique location and historical significance.
Our transition program is designed to celebrate the different Junior School experiences that students have and to use this to create a unity through common core experiences.
In the year prior to beginning secondary schooling at the Academy of Mary Immaculate the following activities are undertaken:
Talk and Tour of the school facilitated by one of two people:
Tours run on a fortnightly basis and registration with the School’s Registrar Ms Morena Misseri is essential.
Every student who applies to the school is interviewed by one of three people:
An assessment morning is conducted. During this activity Information and data is gathered about every student; building a profile to allow for curriculum planning.
An information evening is held for parents.
An orientation day is held for students. Students are given a taster day at the Academy; Homeroom – Pastoral Care, Science, Art and Peer Support lessons occur.
Students are also allocated their house and meet their House teachers and Sports Leadership Team.
When students begin secondary schooling at the Academy of Mary Immaculate the following activities are undertaken:
