Health Sciences and Physical Education

Health Science courses examine the benefits of physical activity and the influences which affect people’s attitude towards, and participation in, physical activity short and long term.

 

They emphasise a holistic approach to health and firmly acknowledge the relationship between mental and physical health. Students develop the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about health enhancing behaviour and attitudes to food.

Physical Education, Health and Home Economics are core subjects in Years 7 – 10.

Physical Education

Physical Education exposes students to a wide variety of sports including:

  • Racquet Sports – badminton, tennis, racquetball
  • Court Sports – volleyball, netball, basketball, indoor cricket and soccer
  • Field Sports – soccer, AFL, rugby, softball, sof-crosse
  • Fitness and Lifestyle Activities – swimming, athletics, aerobics, gym

Health Education

Health Education units include: identity, changes and challenges during adolescence, healthy relationships, drug education, mental health, women’s health issues, first aid and resuscitation.

Home Economics

Home Economics allows Year 8 students to apply theoretical knowledge in fun and creative practical sessions, developing skills in the preparation and presentation of food.

VCE

VCE students have the opportunity to study Units 1- 4 in Health and Human Development, Psychology and Physical Education.
